Resumen
Introduction: inactivity decreases academic motivation, which in turn affects concentration, mood, and performance among university students. Their overall health is affected due to sedentarism. Objective: to analyze the relationship between sedentary behavior and academic motivation of university students in the economics and finance program. Methodology: In quantitative, cross-sectional, descriptive-explanatory study, associations between the variables were determined using structural equation modeling (SEM). Additionally, two Likert-type surveys were administered to 319 economics and finance students from university institutions in Arequipa to determine the degree of association between the two variables. Results: Sedentarism correlates with the academic motivation of university students in the economics and finance program at universities in Arequipa (0.785). Conclusions: there is a statistically significant correlation between the variables, demonstrating that academic motivation is affected when university students exhibit sedentary behaviors. Therefore, academic dedication, concentration, and energy are affected when people sit for long periods of time, which is common in careers that require high levels of theoretical knowledge and mental acuity. © (2026), (Didactic Asociation Andalucia), All Rights Reserved.
