Resumen

Introduction: The problem of noise pollution is widespread, since a large part of the world’s population may be exposed to noise levels that are harmful to health. Objective: To determine the levels of urban noise in the vicinity of some residential areas in the city of Ilo. Materials and methods: The research was descriptive non-experimental type, 10 sampling sites were established, of which, 9 were near educational institutions, The study followed the methodology established by the Ministry of Environment in 2013 (National Protocol for Environmental Noise Monitoring) and ISO 1996 standards. Results: The results obtained in this research categorically indicate that the noise levels in the different measurement points in Ilo are above the values established by the ECAs, the values recommended by the WHO and, those dictated by the Provincial Municipality of Ilo. Conclusions: Taking into account the regulations established by international organizations the results obtained in this research show that the population residing and making public life in the monitored areas are exposed to noise levels.
