Resumen
The digital development of the tourism industry has enabled the expansion of service channels and improved operational efficiency. This chapter examines the digital competencies required in services in general. It focuses on the competencies specifically needed in the tourism sector, with an emphasis on Peru. The chapter details the exploratory fieldwork conducted in Peru and discusses the results as well as future directions. Digital behavior is evolving, and one of the primary drivers of this evolution lies in information and communication technologies, which are growing in significance across various global economic sectors. Skills such as cloud computing and virtualization, display marketing, virtual reality and robotics were currently seen as less relevant because the Peruvian business sector has not yet widely adopted these capabilities. The current use of certain digital skills, corroborated by their educational offerings, shows that the most widely used are e-commerce, social media, data analytics, customer relationship management and digital marketing. © ISTE Ltd 2025.
