Resumen
The aim of this research was to characterize and identify the bacterium Aeromonas caviae isolated from tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) cultured using biofloc technology in Lima, Peru, and to describe the tissue lesions caused by this pathogen. Eighty-five specimens were sampled, showing signs of disease such as exophthalmia, melanosis, and erratic swimming. Two bacterial isolates were obtained and characterized using biochemical tests and confirmed as A. caviae by PCR and 16S rRNA gene sequencing. Histopathological findings included pericarditis, myocarditis, and necrosis in the stomach, liver, intestinal villi, pancreas, and anterior and posterior kidney. ©Los autores.
