Hydrological modeling using satellite precipitation over the Huallaga river basin in Perú

Huamanchumo Sono D.F.; Alvarez Mamani L.K.; Jiménez K.Q. · Proceedings of the LACCEI international Multi-conference for Engineering, Education and Technology (2023)

Resumen

The aim of this paper is to evaluate a satellite rainfall dataset obtained from the Global Precipitation Measurement (GPM) project which was applied to the Huallaga River basin located in Peru by means of the use of a large-scale hydrologic model. The numerical modeling is performed at daily time intervals, where the calibration procedure of parameters employs a trial and error procedure, together with the use of the streamflow data from a single station. The computed streamflow series from the hydrologic model using GPM satellite precipitation as input data have been compared with the observed streamflow data, showing a poor correlation in terms of Nash-Sutcliffe efficiency. A visual analysis of the hydrographs showed an underestimation in the calculated streamflows by modeling when compared with observed streamflow at the control station. The conclusion of this modeling process indicates that the satellite precipitation from GPM in IMERG-Final version dataset is not reliable for Huallaga River basin.
