Humanistic foundations (or lack of) for the SDGs

Resumen
The humanistic foundations for the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development warrants a serious discussion, free of bias and based on some historical and philosophical antecedents. This chapter offers a comparison of this proposal – its content, its possible principles – and the moment in the Renaissance that changed the theocentric Middle Ages into an anthropocentric vision of culture. The question we would like to answer is whether some of the issues present in that new era could be discovered in this document. This is the idea of human nature and the problem of poverty, discussed by the School of Salamanca and by Juan Luis Vives. There are some interesting coincidences that could help us answer if the SDGs have or have not a humanistic foundation. © The Editors and Contributors Severally 2026.
