Resumen
This chapter focuses on three cinematic adaptations of novels by the established Peruvian writer Alonso Cueto: Mariposa negra [Black Butterfly] (2006) directed by Francisco J. Lombardi, based on the novel Grandes miradas [Knowing Gazes] (2003); La hora azul [Before Dawn] (2016) by Evelyne Pégot-Ogier, an adaptation of the 2005 novel of the same title; and Magallanes (2015) by Salvador del Solar, based on Cueto's short novel La pasajera [The Passenger] (2015). Attesting to the relevance of historical memory in current national debates, the chapter analyzes the way that Cueto's novels and the cinematic adaptations inspired by them explore different aspects of the armed conflict that unfolded during the 1980s and 90s in Peru. © Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2020.
