Resumen
The aim of this study was to determine the type of feline gingivitis by histopathological description from gingival mucosal biopsies taken from cats seen at a veterinary clinic in Lima that presented clinical signs of gingivitis such as dysphagia, halitosis, oral discomfort, sialorrhea, and weight loss. Thirty-one gingival mucosal samples were collected for histopathological evaluation. Among them, 20/31 (64.5%) of the patients presented lymphoplasmacytic gingivitis, where the presence of Mott cells was observed in 15.0% (3/20). Congestion was present in 16.1% (5/31), chronic stomatitis in 3.2% (1/31), acanthosis in 9.7% (3/31), neutrophilic gingivitis in 3.2%, and erosion in 6.5% (2/31). Among patients with lymphoplasmacytic gingivitis, 25% had an acute grade (5/20), 63.2% were female (12/19) and 60% were within the age group of 3 to 9 years (12/20). ©Los autores.
