Resumen
The city of Arequipa is colonial and contains in its urban configuration the foundational checker-board and the pre-Hispanic indigenous settlements in its periphery, known as traditional towns, which are classified by location, geography, resources, and population, surrounded by extensive agricultural areas of enormous patrimonial value. The research demonstrates the spontaneous and disorderly invasion of areas with tourist potential, applying a mixed qualitative and quantitative methodology. The result is that, despite being protected, productive agricultural landscapes are becoming peri-urban areas, causing the weak links of connection between them to be occupied. It is concluded, therefore, that heritage values, architecture, and the urban conformation are not taken into account, raising the possibility of incorporating these areas in sectoral planning to preserve the natural environment, the culture of a town, and its history to achieve the integration of the landscape and the city.
