Resumen
Objective: To evaluate the effect of the administration of the probiotic strain (Lactobacillus acidophilus) on liver tissue in mice when consuming sucrose. Methodology: 40 mice received the treatment via orogastric for 30 days, interdaily: group I and II (water, 20 mL/kg), group III (probiotic strain, 5 mL/kg), group IV (probiotic strain, 10 mL/kg), group V (probiotic strain, 20 mL/kg). In addition, groups II, III, IV and V were given 30% sucrose solution in a drinking trough (daily). At the end of the treatment, they were administered intraperitoneal sodium pentobarbital (5 mL/kg) to anesthetize them and extract the liver, after which biochemical tests and histological analysis were performed. Result: Group III and IV had a significant decrease (p < 0.01) and (p < 0.05) in triglyceride levels, and GSH and GSH/GSSG levels of group V were significantly increased (p < 0.01) compared to group II. In the histological aspect, the groups that received the probiotic strain showed preservation of the cytoarchitecture, absence of microvesicles and presence of binucleation. Conclusion: The administration of the probiotic strain (Lactobacillus acidophilus) had a hepatoprotective effect, both in biochemical indicators (triglycerides and glutathione) and histologically. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2026.
