HAMI: A Robotic Assistant for Active Hand Rehabilitation

Martinez A.; Caballa S.; Elias D.A. · Lecture Notes in Computer Science (2026) · DOI: 10.1007/978-981-95-2382-5_44

Resumen

This article presents HAMI, a desktop social robot designed to support the rehabilitation of hand prosthesis users, particularly adolescents and adults. The system integrates a 7-in. touchscreen, a camera, and a Raspberry Pi 4B to enable interactive games that encourage active prosthetic use through playful activities. HAMI combines visual guidance, gesture recognition, voice commands, and real-time feedback to deliver a personalized, empathetic, and accessible rehabilitation experience. Initial tests confirmed the system’s usability and stability, highlighting its potential as a low-cost, modular, and engaging therapeutic tool, especially in low-resource contexts. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2026.
