Gender violence in peruvian universities: an epistemological analysis

Villareal García J.F.; Landeo Álvarez R.A.; Portugal Jesús L.H. · Revista Republicana (2025) · DOI: 10.21017/rev.repub.1191

Resumen

The study examines the social factors that have contributed to the normalization of gender-based violence in Peruvian universities. It is worth noting that despite the recognition of this problem by these academic institutions, they have failed to implement effective mechanisms to address this scourge against women. This booklet determined that the reproduction of hegemonic patterns within university faculties has an impact on the academic and personal development of female students. A descriptive analysis of the normative instruments of Peruvian universities revealed the omission of the term "gender violence" in the aforementioned regulations, which not only restricts the possibilities of protecting women from situations of violence, but also makes it difficult for them to report such acts as well as their aggressors. This paper appeals to the argument that the exclusion of women in the production and legitimization of academic and scientific knowledge is a particular manifestation of gender violence: namely, epistemic violence. Finally, it concludes the need for a structural transformation of universities in Peru with the aim of guaranteeing safer and more equitable academic environments for the female population. © Esta obra está bajo una licencia internacional Creative Commons Atribución 4.0. https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/
