Functional vulnerability of the Infrastructure of the Cusco Regional Hospital, Perú

Ugarte-Salva E.; Vargas-Febres C.G. · Legado de Arquitectura y Diseno (2020) · DOI: 10.36677/legado.v15i28.14353

Resumen

Vulnerability has different application mechanisms depending on the area of knowledge, from anthropology, sociology, engineering itself to architecture, including others, of course. It is associated with situations of risk, stress, susceptibility, resilience, among others. In the same way, to build the notion of vulnerability, it must be done on the basis of two foundations; the first, which refers to the conditions in which the unit of analysis is susceptible to losing its capacity, the second, has to do with the capacity for accommodation and adaptation. For the research design, a theoretical framework was structured where functional vulnerability was based, and then, and within the framework of technical standards, to propose comparative tables to demonstrate the existing gaps with respect to occupation rates, square meters per Service Production Unit Health, among others; so, the study requires quantitative and qualitative data. It was shown that the infrastructure is at risk due to the gaps calculated in extension by each Provider Unit, this only manages to cover sixty-one percent of the real demand; the functional space organization scheme no longer corresponds to contemporary functionality criteria, accessibility to the hospital is critical; and all of this has been affecting, not only patients, but also healthcare workers: In this line of reflection, the readjusted capacity has been calculated as a consequence of the availability of built area to manage the vulnerability of the building in the event of natural events.
