From forest to supply chain planning: How the S&OP model transformed the Peruvian timber business

Bruno A.; Puente D.; Ramos E.; Coles P. · AIP Conference Proceedings (2026) · DOI: 10.1063/5.0309324

Resumen

The low order fulfillment rate is a considerable challenge in the timber industry. This problem adversely affects customer satisfaction and company profitability, causing delivery delays, incomplete orders, and poor-quality products. This study proposes the development of a Supply Chain Planning model, using tools and techniques such as demand and production planning, resource and quality management, and integration of business processes. This study was validated through the implementation of a pilot program, which allowed for the assessment of the proposed metrics and the optimization of demand, supply, and production planning. The Supply Chain Planning model demonstrates a 19% improvement in the Perfect Order Index (POI). The results indicate that the supply chain planning model might significantly enhance the operational performance, providing an adaptable approach for wider industry applications.
