FROM EMPATHY TO HUMAN PERSON: KNOWLEDGE OF OTHER AS AN AFFIRMATION OF PERSONAL COMMUNITY

Quiceno J.D. · Person and Knowledge (2025) · DOI: 10.1108/978-1-83708-990-120251004

Resumen

The text proposes a revision of the idea of empathy. It began for the revision of Tomas Negel article of How is to be a bat? Trough the problem of the irreducibility of the subjective to objective that this position arises, the article tries to stablish a turn to a personalistic perspective where the person is the basis every experience that could be knowledge as objective. In this register, empathy appears as a properly personal act, since it manifests the capacity of the human being to know objectively and to affirm, at the same time, the personal character of the lived experience. With this, it is possible to reach a vision where the mass, the vital dynamism, or any evolutionary impulse ceases to be an impersonal reality and becomes a space of communion. There where beings are maximally communicable and maximally themselves. He fell silent after speaking, and his face was covered with a color that showed clearly, the feeling and shame of his soul.
