Resumen
Introduction: Both food security and unhealthy lifestyles are currently global challenges, compounded by health and economic difficulties as well as the climate crisis. However, there is still evidence on the relationship among these variables in Latin America. Objective: To determine the association between food security and lifestyle habits in urban households in the district of Soritor. Materials and Methods: Observational, descriptive, and cross-sectional study conducted among 559 households in the district of Soritor. The Latin American and Caribbean Food Security Scale (ELCSA) and the Lifestyle Questionnaire adapted by Palomares L. were used to assess food security and lifestyles. Results: In Soritor 87,8% of households experienced food insecurity, and 97,1% exhibited unhealthy lifestyles. Furthermore, statistically significant association was observed between food security and lifestyles habits (p < 0,001). Conclusions: Food insecurity was associated with unhealthy lifestyles and with sociodemographic factors such as age, educational level, occupation, income, and the status of being a beneficiary of a government subsidy.
