Resumen
Objectives: To identify contributions of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in different areas where archival 2 science has been applied over the last five years, in order to determine its relevance, scope, and benefits. Methodology: A systematic literature review was conducted, primarily qualitative, using scientific journals obtained from Scopus, Scielo, Library & Information Science Abstracts (LISA), and Google Scholar. After applying the PICOC protocol and the PRISMA method, fourteen texts addressing the application and reflection of AI in documentation or records management were reviewed. Results: The usefulness of artificial intelligence in the digital preservation of archives is evident, using machine learning, Handwritten Text Recognition (HTR) or Natural Language Processing (NLP) techniques, among others. Furthermore, it can be inferred that, beyond archival preservation, the main objective of using AI is the democratization of all obtained documentation. Despite some user deficiencies in AI knowledge and certain companies failing to leverage its advantages, this technology is currently in full implementation. Likewise, published research aims to disseminate AI initiatives for replication and improvement. It’s concluded that AI is a tool that significantly optimizes metadata creation, searching large volumes of information, and the automatic transcription of images, videos, and audio, standing out for its speed and increasing accuracy. © (2025), (University of Barcelona).
