Resumen
This study analyzes the transformations of family support in the hospital care of older adults in Lambayeque between 1990 and 2023. From a historical-social perspective, it examines how demographic changes, reforms in the Peruvian health system, and shifts in family structure have reconfigured caregiving practices during hospitalization. A qualitative methodology was employed, based on documentary analysis, normative review, and official statistical sources. The study reveals a transition from extended family models to more nuclear and fragmented configurations, which has altered the forms of shared responsibility between family and State. It concludes that hospital care for older adults constitutes a privileged setting for understanding the tensions among public policies, family dynamics, and contemporary cultural transformations.
