Factors influencing the adoption of cloud computing by SMEs in developing countries: A review of the literature

Otake L. · Proceedings of the LACCEI international Multi-conference for Engineering, Education and Technology (2024) · DOI: 10.18687/laccei2024.1.1.1290

Resumen

Today, although cloud computing is one of the most significant trends in the acquisition of information technologies, its adoption remains limited, especially in SMEs in developing economies. The objective of this study is to present a systematic literature review about the factors influencing cloud computing adoption (CCA) by SMEs in the context of developing countries. A total of 62 relevant articles from the last five years that were extracted from various online databases were reviewed. The factors were analyzed, integrated, and classified, and the results revealed that relative advantage, top management support and competitive pressure are the most critical factors affecting SMEs towards CCA. The conclusions of this review contribute to helping both providers design strategies for the penetration of cloud services, and SMEs to make wise adoption decisions. This study contributes to CCA research by showing a holistic view of research models or frameworks, critical factors, and geographic distributions. The results also show possible future research in this field.
