Resumen
The objective of this research was to analyze the factors associated with university dropout rates at a public institution in Peru, despite satisfactory per capita spending per student. The study was basic in nature, with a quantitative approach and a relational and cross-sectional design. A sample of 156 dropout students was surveyed using a structured questionnaire. Spearman's rho correlations and chi-square analyses were applied to identify the relationship between personal, economic, academic, and institutional factors and dropout. The results showed that none of these factors significantly explained dropout, with the influential elements being the lack of vocational profile matching, immediate job expectations, and the demands of the academic program. In conclusion, 71% of participants who were satisfied with the conditions provided by the university decided to drop out due to lack of motivation, academic risk, and poor institutional commitment. Strengthening tutoring and pedagogical support from the moment students enter university will improve student retention.
