Resumen

Objective: To determine the proportion of unsuccessful treatment and the factors that are associated in patients with sensitive tuberculosis in the Cajamarca Region – Peru, for the period 2017-2021. Methods: An observational, analytical, retrospective cohort study was conducted. It was based on information recorded in the Tuberculosis Management Information System (SIGTB). It was considered as inclusion criteria: patient registered in the SIGTB, and as exclusion criteria: patient who was not assigned the result of the treatment. To analyze the association between non-successful treatment with each of the independent variables, the chi-square test, Fisher’s exact test and generalized linear models with a Poisson distribution family, log link function and robust variance were used. Results: Treatment was unsuccessful in 133 (18.1%). In both epidemiological models, the characteristic associated (p value <0.05) with non-successful treatment was treatment irregularity. Additionally, male gender (aRR: 2.09; 95% CI: 1.09-4.03) and the 2HREZ/10HR treatment scheme (aRR: 2.29; 95% CI: 1.02-5.10) showed an association. Some characteristics that showed an association in the bivariate analysis are history of alcoholism (cRR: 1.60; 95% CI: 1.05-2.43), history of drug addiction (cRR: 1.72; 95% CI: 1.00-2.96), with a diagnosis or history of HIV (cRR: 3.28; 95% CI: 2.26-4.75), condition of admission dropout recovered (cRR: 2.33; 95% CI: 1.29-4.21). Conclusions: There is a high percentage of unsuccessful treatment in patients with sensitive tuberculosis. Treatment irregularity was the characteristic with the strongest association.
