Extispicin: A common communication method with the gods, to the inca culture and the mesopotamian civilization?

Duponchel D. · RISTI - Revista Iberica de Sistemas e Tecnologias de Informacao (2021)

Resumen

In the history of communications, divination represents one of the oldest communication vectors of humanity. The extispicin, divinatory technique, which consists in the observation of the entrails of sacrificed animals, appeared in Mesopotamia and spread throughout the Mediterranean basin. In Peru, in the Inca culture, we find a similar technique without any direct relationships between these two worlds having been verified. Using the method of comparative study, we will analyze the writings of some chroniclers of the Spanish colony in Peru and other testimonies of the time, which describe this practice and its officiants. Nevertheless the peculiarities such as the technique itself, the choice of the animal and the organs observed, this comparative study allows us to affirm the existence of an Andean extispicine.
