Condori P.P.C. · Introduction to Extended Reality (XR) Technologies (2025) · DOI: 10.1002/9781119857716.ch8

Resumen

In the circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic, the tourism sector was one of the most worst-hit sectors. Tourism contributes directly and indirectly to job creation, and it also leads to economic development. Tourism also helps to introduce different cultures as well as locally made products of different places across the world. During the pandemic, the tourism sector faced a lot of losses. Its capacity to generate jobs was lost. Its development had stopped completely. After easing of the pandemic restrictions in the world, making up for the losses that the tourism sector faced during the pandemic, for the recovery of the tourism sector’s capacity to generate jobs, and for the further development of the tourism sector, application of extended reality (XR) technologies in tourism can be helpful. It could also help in enabling tourism marketing and in the promotion and publicity of tour places. Overall, XR can be very useful for tourism. In this chapter, the different applications of XR technologies in the tourism sector are briefly discussed. Also, the various advantages of XR technologies in the tourism sector are discussed in the chapter.
