Resumen
Objective: To identify difficulties related to vision, hearing, reading comprehension, academic writing and mathematical communication in students of higher education. Method: A quantitative descriptive approach was used and the study population was composed of 999 students. Five questionnaires were used to collect the data, which had adequate metric properties. Results: Among the outstanding findings is that myopia is the most common visual affection, affecting 47.9% of students. A high exposure to the use of digital devices in the university environment was observed, with 66.7% of students dedicating significant time to these activities. Regarding hearing conditions, the majority of students (82.1%) did not have severe hearing problems, being otitis and moderate ear infections the most prevalent conditions, affecting 14.7% of participants. Regarding reading comprehension, it was identified that students reached an instructional level in the identification, organization and expression of ideas, while the inferential level presented greater challenges. In the field of academic writing, 50% of the students were placed in the intermediate level. Finally, in the knowledge and mathematical communication, an insufficient level was evident in all the dimensions evaluated. Conclusions: It is necessary to address these problems in the university educational context to improve the quality of training of students.
