Resumen

Introduction: In recent years, Eucalyptus globulus Labill. (eucalyptus) has emerged as a protagonist in pharmacological research, revealing surprising antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties that promise to revolutionize its application in natural medicine and public health. The objective of this literature review is to highlight the importance of eucalyptus as a source of various chemical components and benefits for the body. This literature review conducted a bibliographic search on the pharmacological activity and bioactive compounds of eucalyptus in the following electronic databases: Pub-Med, Scopus, Web of Science and Google Scholar, published from 2020 to 2024. Result: A total of 15 documents were selected that meet the study objectives, highlighting the relevance of eucalyptus in the pharmacological field. It is concluded that eucalyptus is a valuable resource in traditional and modern medicine, as well as in the pharmaceutical industry. However, there is still much to be investigated. It is essential to continue exploring its properties in order to develop a drug based on a metabolite present in this medicinal plant in the future.
