Cordova M.C.; Espinoza-Puma J.F.; Encarnación-Gómez H.V.; Contreras-Yucra M.K.; Rojas-Trujillo Y.; Barja-Ore J. · Journal of South Asian Federation of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (2026) · DOI: 10.5005/jp-journals-10006-2918

Resumen

Aim: To analyze the published scientific evidence regarding sexuality in blind individuals. Materials and methods: A systematic search of the scientific literature was conducted using the PubMed database, employing a search equation composed of MeSH terms and Boolean operators. Five articles were included in the article selection process. Results: Sexual fear has an indirect relationship with sexual self-esteem and self-concept. Sexual relations are frequent, as well as risky sexual behaviors, such as multiple sexual partners and not using condoms. Blind women demonstrate good knowledge of contraceptive methods, and the use of family planning services is relevant and well-utilized. In blind men, condom use is also common. Sexual education is infrequent, and the sources of information on these topics are often unreliable. In conclusion, sexual experience is normal and frequent in blind people and is influenced by psychological factors. Conclusion: Although there is participation in family planning services, risk behaviors persist, and there is a notable gap in sexual education, so educational interventions are required to allow the full exercise of their sexual and reproductive rights. © The Author(s). 2026 Open Access.
