Resumen
This quantitative, exploratory, and descriptive study aimed to determine the levels of emotional intelligence in 340 2nd grade students from the district of Independencia, Lima, Peru. The sample consisted of 164 male students (48.2%) and 176 female students (51.8%), with an average age of 7.6 years. A Likert-type survey was used as the instrument, assessing three dimensions of emotional intelligence: emotional awareness, emotional regulation, and emotional competence. The sur-vey consisted of 12 items. Data analysis was conducted using IBM SPSS soft-ware version 25. The results indicated that the studied population exhibited inter-mediate and low levels of emotional intelligence. The dimension with the least development was emotional awareness, with 43.2% of the students falling into the low level. These findings highlight the need for interventions and educational programs that promote the development of emotional intelligence in early child-hood education, particularly in the dimension of emotional awareness.
