Resumen
As Peru is located in a high hazard seismic zone, it is necessary to provide structures the earthquake resistant capacity against earthquakes. According to the Peruvian Standard for Earthquake Resistant Design E.030, immediate operational performance is mandatory for essential buildings such as Hospitals and Schools, however it isn't for important or common buildings. Moreover, hospitals classified as essential (A1) buildings needs to be design with base isolation system as mandatory by the Peruvian standard. As it is known, the implementation of a seismic isolation system has a very high cost, and it cannot be afforded easily for important or common buildings. For that reason, the aim of this research is to develop a prototype of seismic isolation device (ABC) with enhanced energy dissipation oriented for common buildings with a low cost of manufacturing. To manufacture the prototype, the recycled rubber material was studied, performing shear modulus tests on the material, from the results, shear modulus depends on the shear strain deformation level. With this, 2 seismic isolation prototypes were developed, the first a common isolation prototype (ABC-R) and the second added U-damper steel devices (ABC-RU). From the cyclic test, the ABC-R samples showed a non-linear hysteretic behavior, on the other hand, the ABC-RU sample provided greater energy dissipation to the prototype. Finally, a time-history analysis was performed, demonstrating that the proposed device can be used to protect dwellings in Peru.
