Resumen
The patellofemoral joint is complex and includes an interplay of static and dynamic anatomic structures. Patellofemoral disorders can range from traumatic injuries, instability or those leading to patellofemoral pain syndrome. Patellofemoral pain syndrome is one of the most common diagnoses in patients complaining from anterior knee pain. The cause is multifactorial and sometimes idiopathic. This makes the diagnosis often confused with difficult treatment decisions. A detailed medical history and a structured physical exam are crucial to reach a more accurate diagnosis. This chapter presents a step-by-step guide to help the clinician or physiotherapist to evaluate the patient with patellofemoral symptoms, including how to collect the clinical history, static and dynamic physical examination and how to perform and interpret the specific physical tests. © ISAKOS 2022.
