Resumen
This study examines interpersonal violence during the transition between the final phase of the Initial Formative Period (IF-Crisis, 2000–1800 BC) and the early phase of the Early Formative Period (EF-1, 1800–1500 BC), a critical interval of political restructuring in the north-central Peruvian region. Through the osteobiographical analysis of a young adult male buried in Quebrada Chupacigarro, in the middle Supe valley, dated to 1887–1689 BC (2σ), we document a case of lethal violence. Isotopic indicators suggest that he was a non-local individual. This study provides unprecedented evidence on the nature of interpersonal violence during a key period for understanding the social dynamics that unfolded after the abandonment of the urban center of Caral.
