Resumen
This study evaluates the wind energy potential in Palca, Peru, using hourly wind-speed records at 10 m for 2023 (n = 8 760). Weibull parameters were estimated monthly using the empirical Justus method (EMJ) and the energy-factor method (EPF), and compared with the Rayleigh approximation; Weibull methods provided a better fit (R2≈ 0.75-0.82). The annual mean wind speed is 3.73 m/s and the mean annual power density at 10 m is 58.82 W/m 2 (monthly range 34.07 - 89.19 W/m 2). Using manufacturer power curves, preliminary capacity factors were estimated at 14% (Bergey XL1), 26% (Proven 15-kW), and 31% (Gamesa G136-4.5 MW). Although the resource is classified as marginal, results indicate potential for residential and community applications and for hybrid integration in high-altitude areas. Because measurements were taken at 10 m over complex terrain, estimates are preliminary; hub-height campaigns and formal uncertainty quantification are recommended prior to project sizing.
