Evaluation of Transmission Parameters of a LoRaWAN Network in the Presence of Electromagnetic Interference in the 900 MHz Band

Yupanqui G.A.C.; Cusicuna J.L.A. · Smart Innovation, Systems and Technologies (2025) · DOI: 10.1007/978-3-031-92651-8_1

Resumen

In this study, an experimental evaluation was conducted to analyze the behavior of a LoRaWAN network when exposed to interference in the 900 MHz frequency band. Specifically, testing was done using the 922.3 MHz channel to assess how interference affects network performance. Key performance parameters such as Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR), Received Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI), and data transfer capacity were carefully measured and evaluated. The network was subjected to two main types of interference: co-channel interference and adjacent channel interference. An RF generator was used to introduce interference at various power levels, allowing the LoRa gateway to experience interference levels of -85 dBm, -80 dBm, -75 dBm, -65 dBm, and -60 dBm. Additionally, the network configuration was adjusted with different spreading factor values to observe performance changes. The results showed that, while RSSI values remained relatively stable against both types of interference, SNR and data capacity experienced significant degradation depending on the intensity and type of interference introduced © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.
