Resumen
– Deficient pedestrian accessibility at urban intersections generates high levels of pedestrian-vehicle conflicts that compromise road safety. This study addresses the problem at the intersection of Av. José de la Riva Agüero with Av. La Marina in San Miguel, Lima, where 47 conflicts per hour and 36.9% regulatory compliance are recorded. The methodology integrates diagnosis through vehicular and pedestrian counts, compliance evaluation with checklists based on NACTO standards and the Inclusive Urban Design Manual, Likert perception surveys applied to 247 users, and calibrated VISSIM microsimulation with SSAM conflict analysis. The redesign proposal includes sidewalk expansion to 1.50 m, ramps with slopes below 10%, 2.00 m pedestrian crossings, central separators, and traffic signal optimization. Results demonstrate a 74.5% reduction in pedestrian-vehicle conflicts (from 47 to 12 events/hour), 100% compliance with crosswalk and ramp standards, 87.5% in sidewalks, pedestrian perception improvement from 2.25 to 4.32 on Likert scale, and iRAP rating of 4-5 stars. The main contribution lies in the quantitative validation through microsimulation that normative geometric redesign significantly reduces conflicts and comprehensively improves pedestrian accessibility at complex urban intersections.
