Resumen

The objective of this research was to evaluate the properties of Self-Compacting Concrete, both in the fresh and hardened states, influenced by the use of recycled aggregate and crushed glass. The coarse recycled aggregate, with a maximum size of ½ inch, was obtained from demolition concrete with strengths exceeding 17.5 MPa. Similarly, the particulate glass was derived from construction finishing waste and ground to achieve a fineness modulus of 2.63. The superplasticizer additive, known as R-2020 from the Gaia product line, was used. Two mixes of Self-Compacting Concrete were prepared: The control concrete and the concrete with 75% recycled aggregate and 15% crushed glass, replacing both fine and coarse aggregate. From each mix, 12 cylindrical samples measuring 4 x 8 inches were obtained and cured in water for 3, 7, 14, and 28 days according to ASTM C31. Additionally, 12 rectangular prismatic samples with dimensions of 15xl5x50 cm were manufactured for flexural testing at the midspan according to ASTM C293. The samples were tested for compression and flexural strength. Laboratory results show that in the fresh state of concrete, there were no significant differences observed in extensibility, T50, and temperature, which remained similar to the control design. On the other hand, the modulus of rupture of the concrete with recycled aggregate, measured at 28 days of curing, decreased by 14% compared to the modulus of rupture obtained in the standard concrete, while the compressive strength showed no significant differences at 28 days.
