Resumen
This study estimates the potential for generating biogas from human excreta in the Villa El Ángel settlement, in a vulnerable urban context with limitations in basic services and predominant use of firewood for cooking. Considering a population of approximately 1000 people, a daily production of 216 kg of excreta was estimated. A total of 6.7237324 Nm3 of biogas was obtained using the Buswell equation, equivalent to 12.10 kWh per day with a conversion efficiency of 30%. The results show that anaerobic digestion can be a renewable energy source with environmental and health benefits. However, limitations such as the irregularity of the terrain and community approval for the installation of biodigesters were identified, so it is recommended to implement pilot projects and carry out soil studies to ensure their proper operation.
