Resumen
This research aims to assess the influence of the port of Chancay’s location on traffic density around Callao. Methodology: A comparative data analysis was conducted using system dynamics, considering the access routes of importers/exporters to the ports of the Lima coast before and after the establishment of the port of Chancay. Data from various sources were collected and analysed using statistical methods to identify significant changes in traffic density. Results: The primary findings suggest that establishing the port of Chancay has positively impacted the traffic density around the port of Callao. There have been notable changes in traffic patterns, with a redistribution of vehicular flow that has partially eased congestion in the port of Callao. Conclusions: The implications of these results are significant for logistics planning and urban development in the region. The location of the port of Chancay has proven to be an effective strategy for managing traffic density in the port of Callao, indicating that expanding and enhancing port infrastructure can be a viable solution to congestion issues in urban areas. This study contributes to the existing literature on port logistics and urban traffic, providing empirical evidence of the benefits of implementing new ports for traffic management. Further studies are recommended to explore other factors that may influence traffic density and evaluate these infrastructures’ long-term impact. © Institute for Production and Logistics Research GbR Herberger, Hübner & Beus.
