Resumen
Coagulation is an essential process in water treatment, which requires the addition of chemical flocculants. The objective of this research was to evaluate the efficiency of the tamarind seed, peel and pulp as coagulation aid of aluminum sulfate for the removal of turbidity in water for human consumption. A completely randomized 6Ax6B experimental design with two factors was applied: Factor A: six treatments; Factor B: Applied concentrations (corresponding to the six doses) with three repetitions per treatment, the Cepis methodology was applied with jar tests (300 and 40 rpm in rapid mixing and flocculation) to evaluate turbidity in six concentrations (25, 30, 35, 40, 45 and 50 mg/l) applied in simulated samples of 100 UNT, finding that treatment 4 presented a removal percentage (96.6%) reducing to a turbidity of 3.40 UNT; on the other hand, treatments 1, 2, 5 and 6 presented a non-significant difference, with average removal percentages of 57.12, 57.02, 61.70 and 67.73%, respectively; while treatment 3 presented the lowest removal value. Treatment 4 presented a higher value than the other treatments, for that reason the tamarind seed is efficient in the purification of water as an aid in the coagulation of aluminum sulfate.
