Evaluation of brucellosis in Junín rams: comparative analysis by breeder class

Villar F.A.; Payano I.U.; Sánchez N.M.; Laurente J.A.; Terrones J.; Mauricio-Ramos Y.; Ninahuanca J. · Revista de Investigaciones Veterinarias del Peru (2025) · DOI: 10.15381/rivep.v36i3.29138

Resumen

The aim of this study was to evaluate the serological prevalence of brucellosis in Junín rams. The study was carried out at the Consac Production Unit of SAIS Túpac Amaru Ltda. N° 1. Two hundred rams were selected by class (SUPER ++, SUPER + ½, SUPER +, SUPER). Blood samples were taken, and the serum was analysed with IDEXX Brucella ovis Ab Test kits. A surveillance cutoff point (S/P ratio = 45%) was used to interpret the results. Results indicated that 20, 32, 28, and 34% of the SUPER +, SUPER + ½, SUPER +, and SUPER categories were positive for brucellosis, respectively. The area under the ROC curve was 0.57. The Odds Ratio results were low and without statistical significance, indicating that other extrinsic factors could be influencing the sustained prevalence of brucellosis. © Los autores.
