Resumen
Ethnicity is a complex concept to define in the social sciences. This complexity is since various authors recog-nize ethnicity as a set of racial, social, and cultural characteristics shared by a group of people. As a result, the nature of ethnicity is multidimensional. This paper aims to construct an index that measures the multidimensionali-ty of ethnicity using household survey data from Peru in 2007 and 2017. The method used to construct the index is Principal Component Analysis (PCA). In addition, a corre-lational analysis of the proposed index with the incidence of poverty, educational and labor variables is presented. Among the results found, there is a greater ethnic intensity in the population living in poverty, in illiteracy conditions and with lower educational levels, as well as in the self-employed population.
