Ergonomic assessment and improvement for judicial administrative positions

Castillo-Barriga A.; Vargas M.; Ortiz-Valdivia Y.; Almirón J.; Chavez B.; Rivera-Acosta V.; Tupayachy-Quispe D. · Proceedings of the LACCEI international Multi-conference for Engineering, Education and Technology (2026) · DOI: 10.18687/laccei2026.1.1.2032

Resumen

This study assessed ergonomic risks and formulated an improvement proposal for administrative positions in a Basic Justice Module of the Peruvian Judiciary in Arequipa. A quantitative, descriptive-explanatory, cross-sectional observational design was adopted, with a census population of 30 workers. The situational analysis identified four critical positions (Parts Desk Assistant, Case File Archive Assistant, Judicial Secretary, and Judicial Technician) systematically exposed to prolonged static postures, repetitive movements, and high cognitive demands. ROSA scores of 8-9 points (high/very high risk) were found in 100% of the evaluated office workstations (M = 8.67, SD = 0.58). REBA identified high risk in the Archive Assistant with a score of 9 (left side) and 5 (right side); OWAS classified 40% of observed postures at action level 4 (immediate correction required); and NASA-TLX revealed high mental workload in 75% of participants (M = 1,080 points out of 1,500). The intervention proposal spatially validated using the Guerchet method across five offices with feasibility margins of 6.4%-67.8%, encompasses ergonomic furniture redesign, spatial redistribution, training programs and ergonomic guides. The cost-benefit analysis projects a B/C ratio of 1.41, with an investment of S/56,330.00 against social benefits of S/465,784.50 per worker and a profitability probability of 48.54%.
