Resumen
In recent years, humanity is witnessing a series of environmental problems such as environmental pollution, climate change and the loss of biodiversity. Faced with this adverse context, the need arises to implement strategies, such as environmental education, to mitigate the previously mentioned problems. Under this premise, the objective of this research was to analyze whether environmental education predicts environmental practices in educational institutions in the city of Puerto Maldonado, Peru. The approach was quantitative, the design was non-experimental, and the type was predictive, cross-sectional. The sample consisted of 292 students from the fifth grade of secondary education who responded to the Environmental Education Questionnaire and the Environmental Practices Questionnaire, instruments with adequate metric properties. The results show that environmental education was directly and significantly related to environmental practices (r= 0.673; p<0.05). Likewise, the simple linear regression analysis showed an adequate fit for the model (F= 239.932; p<0.05), in which environmental education (β= 0.673; p<0.05) explained 45.3% of the total variance of the environmental practices variable. Finally, it was concluded that environmental education predicts environmental practices in educational institutions in the city of Puerto Maldonado, Peru. For this reason, educational institutions must promote environmental education in a transversal manner and involve all educational actors to achieve sustainable development. Â
