Environmental Balance and Species Protection in Peru: The Selachimorpha Shark as a Fundamental Element for the Preservation of Life and Ecosystems

Suárez-Castañeda M.I. · Clio. Revista de Historia, Ciencias Humanas y Pensamiento Critico. (2025) · DOI: 10.5281/zenodo.14559234

Resumen

The objective of this paper is to analyze, from a critical and interdisciplinary perspective, the relevance of environmental balance and the protection of species in Peru, focusing mainly on the Selachimorpha shark, a predator that plays a vital role in the preservation of life and marine ecosystems. To this end, the research considers the relevance of balance in the man-nature relationship, as a questioning of modern-western forms of exploitation. Among the main findings, it is highlighted that shark trafficking promotes organized crime, an activity that is not only carried out for export to the Asian continent, but has spread to the entire American continent. For this reason, it is necessary to implement international and national regulations in order to safeguard the stability of marine ecosystems and provide sustainability to fishing communities. The lack of these regulations can affect and increase the vulnerability of marine species and human beings. The methodology used is documentary exploration. Finally, it is concluded that, despite the formulation of laws and internal policies, Peru needs to make an active front to safeguard the environmental balance, to promote sustainable development, giving future generations the right to enjoy the biodiversity of marine life.
