Resumen
Faced with the palpable effects of climate change among many other environmental situations, many governments have put emphasis on environmental education in schools, in order to raise awareness in youth about the importance of these problems. However, there is a gap between the knowledge imparted in school texts developed in a national level, and the real knowledge and awareness of the local situation by students. This article seeks to identify this breach by conducting research on university students in Arequipa, Peru. Subsequently a methodological framework for the development of the Environmental Atlas of Arequipa is devised, as an educational tool to complement local environmental education. Finally, strategies are proposed for the dissemination and use of such atlas as a massive instrument for urban environmental education in Arequipa.
