Madrid R.L.; Bustamante V.A.G.; Marcelo-Aldana D.; Paulini J.U. · TEMSCON LATAM 2025 - Technology and Engineering Management Society Conference (2025) · DOI: 10.1109/temsconlatam65810.2025.11238366

Resumen

This study presents a comprehensive methodology for optimizing the design and performance of shell and tube heat exchangers using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). The research employs ANSYS software to simulate the fluid dynamics and heat transfer within the heat exchanger, utilizing methanol and water as working fluids. The design process involves an iterative analytical approach supported by Excel and Computer-Aided Design (CAD) tools. The CFD simulation focuses on optimizing the geometry of the heat exchanger to enhance heat transfer efficiency while reducing costs. The study validates the simulation results against analytical data, using temperature as the primary validation parameter. It highlights the importance of mesh quality and boundary conditions in achieving accurate simulations. The findings provide insights into improving heat exchanger design and performance, contributing to more efficient industrial processes. This research also underscores the educational value of integrating CFD simulations into engineering curricula, offering students practical experience in designing and optimizing industrial equipment.
