Resumen
Emotional intelligence (El) is crucial in the professional field, ranking among the most in-demand competencies. However, its integration into university education, especially in Latin America, presents gaps. In this sense, the general objective of this research is to figure out industrial engineering students' perceptions regarding the importance, necessity, and presence of El training in their curriculum. A quantitative approach was adopted, with a descriptive design, applying the EINFEM Scale. The results reveal that participants attribute high importance to El (mean >4.05), especially to complementary competencies (M=4.21), and perceive a considerable need for training (mean >3.87), also with an emphasis on complementary competencies (M=4.01), with a positive correlation between importance and need. Furthermore, the majority acknowledge the presence of El training in their curriculum. The conclusion is that there is a clear awareness of the relevance of El; while its educational presence is perceived, there is a demand for greater depth. The implications suggest the importance of reviewing and strengthening the explicit integration of El into engineering curricula, considering that it plays a crucial role in everything from decision-making to productivity.
