Resumen
The objective of this study is to analyze the energy efficiency and autonomy delivered by a quad-bike all-terrain vehicle (ATV) with an internal combustion engine and another vehicle with these characteristics converted to an electric vehicle. For the electric vehicle the parameters were collected with a power quality analyzer and a data acquisition system. Both vehicles were tested for measurement of torque and rotation of the drive axle with a torque and rotation sensor implemented on a test bench (chassis dynamometer). The tests were carried out both in the laboratory and in the field, measuring energy parameters that define the efficiency and autonomy of operation. The results indicate that the quad-bike ATV that uses an internal combustion engine converted to an electric vehicle considerably improves efficiency and autonomy. The acceleration capacity of the electric vehicle is considerably greater, the autonomy of the stored fuel represents the same capacity when compared to the storage in the battery, maintaining the same weight of the vehicle. Without considering environmental improvements, the conversion of these low-power vehicles represents an important performance improvement for users and the environment.
