Bartra-Rivero K.R.; Barrantes Santos F.E.; Armesto Céspedes M.S.; Guzmán-Melgar C.C. · Encuentros (Maracaibo) (2026) · DOI: 10.5281/zenodo.20560542

Resumen

Empathic communication has become an essential component in higher education, mainly in scenarios influenced by social and economic tensions, as well as the accelerated virtualization of teaching-learning processes. Previous research supports the role of the university in fostering inclusive environments, improving teacher-student interaction and strengthening students’ socioemotional development. By virtue of the above, the research aimed to explore the relationship between empathic communication and teaching effectiveness in private universities in Lima, Peru. Methodologically, a descriptive-correlational non-experimental design was used, applying surveys to 364 students. The main findings revealed a positive correlation between both study variables, highlighting those teachers with higher levels of empathy demonstrated greater effectiveness. However, gaps were identified, such as communication difficulties with students. It was concluded that empathic communication is essential for the pedagogical exercise in higher education.
