Electronic and Magnetic Study of the Composition of Fe75Al25 Prepared by arc Furnace

Cabrera R.R.; Arellano R.M.G.; Ayala C.R. · Proceedings - 2025 IEEE Latin American Conference on Nanotechnology, LANANO 2025 (2025) · DOI: 10.1109/lanano68466.2025.11512454

Resumen

The Fe75Al25 composition was synthesized using the arc furnace technique and subsequently heat-treated at 600 °C. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Mössbauer spectroscopy (MS) indicate the formation of the Fe3Al intermetallic compound with a DO3-type structure and space group Fm-3m, an iron-rich Fe(Al) solid solution, both at room temperature and at 600 °C. Electronic structure calculations were performed using first-principles methods based on density functional theory (DFT). These calculations revealed the influence of the specific Fe-Al atomic configurations on the material's properties. Although DFT was useful for calculating the electronic structure. The results show good agreement between the structural and magnetic properties.
