Electrical Engineering and Automation in the development of an automatic pet dispenser

Oded Marisol C.-S.; Katherine Lisbeth M.-R. · Proceedings of the LACCEI international Multi-conference for Engineering, Education and Technology (2026) · DOI: 10.18687/laccei2026.1.1.242

Resumen

In the domestic sphere, ensuring proper feeding routines for pets is becoming increasingly complex due to the fast-paced lifestyles of owners in the city of Cajamarca. Irregular schedules and manual feeding often lead to nutritional problems, dehydration, and hygiene deficiencies, highlighting the limitations of traditional methods in terms of precision and efficiency. To address this issue, this project proposes the development of an automated pet food and water dispenser controlled by an ESP32 microcontroller and integrated with sensors, motorized mechanisms, and a mobile application for remote monitoring. The overall objective is to develop an automatic pet food and water dispenser using a microcontroller, improving feeding regularity and operational efficiency, while promoting technological innovation and the efficient use of water resources. The methodology employed is pre-experimental, using a sample of 10 pets in the city of Cajamarca. The results showed a significant reduction in feeding time, from 30 to 6 seconds, representing an 80.33% decrease, as well as in water dispensing time, from 20 to 5 seconds, equivalent to a 75% reduction. Furthermore, statistical analysis using Student's t-test confirmed significant differences between the manual and automated methods. In conclusion, the automatic dispenser improves the efficiency, accuracy, and control of the feeding process, contributing to animal welfare by optimizing user time.
