Efficiency of an Innovative Concrete Brick with Confitillo for Construction in Aggressive Environments

Piero M.-M.; Germán S.-V. · Proceedings of the LACCEI international Multi-conference for Engineering, Education and Technology (2024) · DOI: 10.18687/leird2024.1.1.488

Resumen

This study investigates the efficiency of innovative concrete bricks that use confitillo as a partial substitute for fine aggregate, specifically in aggressive environments. Three types of bricks were manufactured: a standard brick with traditional dosing, a brick with a 25% sand replacement by confitillo, and a brick with a 75% sand replacement by confitillo. A series of strength and durability tests were conducted to evaluate the performance of these bricks compared to traditional bricks. The results indicate that the bricks with confitillo substitution present lower strength but remain above the required strength and have greater durability against aggressive agents, making them a viable and sustainable alternative for construction in areas with adverse conditions.
